Principles with Purpose

Principle 1: Building and Sustaining Trust with Meaningful Connections

Trust is the belief and confidence in the integrity, reliability, and fairness of a person, group, organization, community, or system. This is an essential human value that defines our relationships with others. We commit to this through reciprocity — truly hearing and seeing people around us.

Principle 2: Listening to Learn and Understand through Curiosity

The desire to learn, be understood, and understand the world around us is universal. With years of training and life experience with finely-tuned observation and listening, we listen and talk with you to deepen our shared understanding to empower and uplift your needs with equanimity.

Principle 3: Establishing and Maintaining Ethical Rapport and Social Support

Rapport is a connection or relationship with someone else. We think of it as a state of harmonious understanding with another or group and continuously building on that connection through compassionate inquiry. However, rapport cannot be established when trust is non-existent.

Principle 4: Giving Authentically and Generously with Acknowledgement

Generosity is the act of being kind and giving to others, even when — and especially when — no one is watching. One’s well-being greatly benefits from a consistent practice of generosity. We can build on this by amplifying best practices and creating new knowledge for the next practices throughout social work and design.

Principle 5: Creating and Generating Access and Accessibility

We believe that when we have equity in order to access needed resources and mutual self-help and aid, we all benefit and can strive to contribute to what’s fair and just in society. When we continuously strive for accessibility, adaptability, and acceptability, we are fluid and ready for multiple contexts.

Principle 6: Perseverance and Consistent Care by Design

Perseverance and design care are the great levelers. When we design with care, we build up our capacity for steady courage in our daily convictions. Daily practice helps us shift despite obstacles, challenges, and barriers. We remain steadfast and mindful of care despite how hard or how long it takes us to reach our shared purpose.
